Birmabright Weekend 2011
The last weekend of May 2011 saw the Malesov camp site close to Kutna Hora hosting the 5th installment of the annual Series Land-Rover meeting. The all-time record of 21 participating vehicles set in 2010 was unfortunately not broken, nevertheless we saw a very nice turnout of 17 old trucks, including 6 vehicles which came all the way from the UK and the Netherlands.
During the late Saturday morning, as soon as all the crews could be resuscitated after the Friday evening spent drinking Czech beer, the main point of the event’s agenda started – the greenlaning trip through the rolling landscape of the area around Kutna Hora. The weather got better, the worst downpours of rain were endured during Friday, so the trip went well. The only participant not taking part in the trip was the main organizers “new” arrival, a SI 86”, which was kindly brought all the way from Scotland to his doorstep by friends. During the nearly 2,000 kilometres it developed a few faults which eventually warranted its peaceful Saturday rest at the camp site.
The evening was spent over further pints of good beer, the sunny Sunday morning was, however, much more disciplined and we managed to depart basically according to plan. The plan was to visit the National Agricultural Museum’s exhibition of classic agricultural machinery – and it went well, to the satisfaction of all participants. Some of the participants then bid farewell to us, heading to their respective homes, some of them with a considerable distance ahead of them. The rest continued to the Lichnice Castle and the restored lime kiln at Zavratec.
Here the meeting reached its end and all participants, hopefully happy with their experience, headed home.
